Privacy Policy
Satcast collects no personal data. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
Who we are
Satcast is an iPhone app made by Samer Dwykat, an independent developer ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy: sam@upshiftsites.com.
Your location
Satcast asks for your location while you use it. It uses your location on your iPhone to work out which satellites are above you, to plan satellite windows, and to show your position on the SOS card and in the check-ins you choose to send. Your location is never sent to us.
To show the right emergency number and which satellite services work where you are, Satcast asks Apple's location services for the country at your position, and the Plan map loads its maps from Apple Maps. Those requests go to Apple and are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Messages you send
Satcast writes check-ins and trip cards; you send them, in Apple's Messages screen, to the person you pick. Satcast never sends a message on its own. If you include your position, the person you send it to sees it.
What stays on your iPhone
The people you add as check-in recipients, a log of the check-ins you've sent, your trip plan, your notes for responders, your vehicle details and your checklist are saved only in Satcast's own storage on your iPhone. Recipients are picked one at a time from your contacts; Satcast doesn't read your address book. This information is included in your iPhone's backups like other app data, and it's deleted when you delete the app.
The only download
The only network request Satcast makes itself downloads public satellite orbit data from CelesTrak (celestrak.org): at most twice a day, only when you're online, and never over a carrier's satellite data. The request carries no personal data, but like any internet request it shows your IP address to CelesTrak and to your network provider. We never receive it.
Purchases
Satcast Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details or your Apple Account. The app checks the purchase on your iPhone with Apple's StoreKit.
Notifications
Trip and satellite-window reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. Satcast uses no push service.
Children
Satcast isn't directed to children under 13, and it collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. A change that would collect any data would come with a new App Store privacy label first.
